Programs are available for presentation in your facility.

Before a firm commits to working with a maintenance management trainer they have to be comfortable with his/her style and experience. It is also important that the consultant has demonstrated leadership in the field of maintenance. There are many fine consultants and teachers out there from all over the world, bluntly why pick me?

I’d like to start off with an introduction in case you’re not one of the 7000 maintenance professionals that I’ve already trained or haven’t read any of my three maintenance management books (soon to be four). For the last 15 years I’ve worked in a wide variety of industries as a maintenance management consultant and trainer.

Decide on using my courses because you want results. The thread that weaves through the wide range of organizations, for which I've consulted or provided customized training, is results. In addition to consultation, over 3000 organizations from 20 countries have enjoyed the intensive nature of my public maintenance training in 425+ sessions. My US sponsors for public sessions are leading universities including the University of Wisconsin, University of Alabama and others. Over 98% of the attendees have rated the course very good to excellent.

Some of the organizations for which I've consulted, surveyed or provided training include: Abbotts Labs, BP, Citgo, SAP, Pepsi, Prince George Pulp and paper, Saturn (GM), Philadelphia International Airport, US Army Corps of Engineers, Esso Canada, New Foundland Hydro, Iron Ore of Canada, Imetal, Univ. of Alabama, GE, Volvo, US National Security Agency, USX, Jefferson University Hospital, Clark Elkhorn Coal, Cooper Industries, NJ Transit, Philip Morris, Sony, CSX Railroad, Harley Davidson Motorcycle, US Navy, Washington D.C. Metro Area Transit, H.B. Zachry… 7000 more

My background includes hands-on experience in maintenance as an electrician, merchant seaman (engine room duties), manufacturing management, property management, process control systems design and installation. My education includes a degree in Computer Science, advanced work in organizational dynamics, engineering, and finance. I have served on the board of ANSI and the Miquon School.

Industrial Press in New York has published five maintenance management books titled Managing Factory Maintenance, Handbook of Maintenance Management and Internet Guide for Maintenance Management, Maintenance Planning,Scheduling and Coordination, and The Complete Guide to Preventive and Predictive Maintenance. I’ve also written chapters of 2 other maintenance books and dozens of articles on all facets of maintenance. A complete Resume and copies of some of some articles can be found right here on the web site.

There are many good reasons to conduct one of these maintenance management seminars in-house:

1. 100% of the course will pertain to your industry and your maintenance situation.

2. The presentation can be adapted to your maintenance language and forms to be easily usable.

3. Special issues can be discussed on a confidential basis with the instructor.

4. Can be scheduled to be convenient to your business cycle.

5. Can save money over sending people outside for training.

6. Can be used as a team building experience.

7. People come out of the class with a shared a common language and vision for maintenance.

Courses can be presented in different lengths

(Want to see a listing of courses available?)

Mini-Course, 4 hours: Any program can be highlighted in a 4 hour session. The mini-course is excel-lent as part of a longer meeting. In a mini-course only the major points are covered.

Briefing, 1 day: Many of the important points on the topic are covered. The briefing length is good for organizations who want maintenance training and cannot afford the time or funds for the longer program. All courses and institutes can be presented in one day sections separated by a week or more.

Seminar, 2 days: Two days is the normal length for these programs. Two days allows the students to absorb the material and come back on the second day with questions.

Institute, 3, 4, 5 or 6 days: The maintenance institute is the most intensive type of maintenance training available from Springfield Resources. An institute could be built from the combination of almost any two or three courses.

Design it yourself

Customized Programs are available for packaged prices: There are over 50 different two hour modules that make up these seminars. We can work with you to pick and choose the most important material to meet your training objective. Most of the modules are completely stand-alone and can be assembled in al-most any order to serve your needs. Audio tapes can be made of these customized sessions to be used as refreshers for follow-up and for team members who could not attend. Standard courses that you can build from.

Entirely new modules and new courses in the maintenance and supervision area can be written at your request. New modules can be integrated with existing material or stand alone.

We can present specific, urgent maintenance topics to non-traditional attendees within your organization such as top management, purchasing/stores, operations management, accounting or data processing.

Three training options

We offer three ways to structure in-house training for maintenance management. The most basic way is to just talk on the phone (or use E-mail) and then present a standard course. The courses are tried and tested and has been used to good effect in many maintenance situations.

* The second and most common option involves a one day site visit before the class, which allows me to add examples from your facility and adjust the verbal presentation to more nearly suit your needs, meet some of the key players and see for myself some of the special problems you face.* (we recommend)

The third option is to conduct a maintenance audit and survey which looks at all of the aspects of maintenance, evaluates areas where improvements are possible and a slanting of the training to the competencies needed to implement the improvements uncovered in the survey.

•Option 1 (Present any seminar- description of service)

1. Discuss the maintenance situation by E-mail or on the telephone and use the information to make the session more useful and relevant.

2. Present contiguous in-house training to a maximum of 35 employees (and/or contractors). Customer will supply training facility, food, and refreshments for attendees and A/V equipment. Courses have a workshop text or a casebook plus a hardback book. Seminar materials range from US$49 to US$99 for each person (depending on the course).

•Option 2 (Present Seminar adapted to site conditions- description of service)

1. Visit site right before session for one day and visually inspect major assets and review current flow of information. Review CMMS, meet with key players within and outside the maintenance organization.

2. Present contiguous in-house training to a maximum of 35 employees (and/or contractors). Customer will supply training facility, food, and refreshments for attendees and A/V equipment. Courses have a workshop text or a casebook plus a hardback book. Seminar materials range from US$49 to US$99 per person (depending on the course).

•Option 3 (Conduct maintenance survey and design and deliver a customized training )

1. Visit site for three days on a separate trip and visually inspect major assets. Review current flow of information from user, through maintenance control, to the mechanic, and completing the circle with a satisfied user. Review CMMS in relation to needs. Look at information behind the mechanics and the maintenance technical library. Use of questionnaires to determine in detail where your maintenance effort is now. Conduct personal interviews with key players within and outside the maintenance organization. Determine what informal planning is going on and how that can be capitalized upon. Spend two additional days in the office customizing a seminar text.

2. At the conclusion of the first visit prepare a verbal presentation with concrete suggestions about where your organization is today and what needs to be improved. Specific training in step four will follow each of the concrete suggestions.

3. Prepare a customized casebook using material designed for you supplemented by material from existing courses.

4. Present contiguous in-house training to a maximum of 35 employees (and/or contractors). Customer will supply training facility, food, and refreshments for attendees and A/V equipment. Courses have a workshop text or a casebook plus a hardback book. Seminar materials range from US$49 to US$169 per person (depending on the courses).

5. Customized Programs are available for packaged prices: There are over 50 different two-hour modules that make up these seminars. We can work with you to pick and choose the most important material to meet your training objective. Most of the modules are completely stand-alone and can be assembled in almost any order to serve your needs.
